Perry V. Brätt | President
Perry BrattA general contractor, engineer, and landscape contractor, Perry has helped found several successful companies, the oldest being Brätt, Inc., founded 31 years ago with a peak employment of 250. Under Perry's direction as President and CEO, Brätt, Inc. has been recognized three years running as one of the Top 100 USA Contractors, a top fastest growing 100 Utah Company, and has received several prestigious national awards.

Perry received a B.A. from Brigham Young University (BYU) and pursued graduate studies at the BYU School of Education. He has served BYU as an Alumni Board Member and as the student body president from 1978-1979. He has received many honors for his work with the Boy Scouts of America and other local and national associations. Perry has served in many church and other volunteer positions. He enjoys art, reading, hiking, and camping.

Dedicated to his family, Perry and his wife, Jana, have seven children and one exchange student. Their children have caught the spirit of giving and have spent over 48 months living in foreign lands helping the needy. Their family has collectively made over 40 trips in the last three years to underdeveloped countries to help save lives.
K. Paul MacArthur | Legal Counsel, Board Member
Paul MacArthurPresident and CEO of MacArthur Law Offices - a financial counseling, estate planning, adoption, and tax law firm - Paul's interest and enthusiasm for A Child's Hope Foundation stems from his own experience as an adoptive parent. He and his wife, Monica, have four children, two of whom were adopted. Paul received a B.A. in English/Business Management from Brigham Young University (BYU), an M.S. in Taxation from the Washington School of Law, and a Juris Doctorate from the J. Reuben Clark Law School at BYU.

Paul has volunteered his services to the Court Appointed Special Advocate for Children (CASA) project where he assisted in child abuse and custody cases by working to assure that the child's best interests were being realized. He also acts as a certified mediator when circumstances require. A gifted writer, Paul has served as managing editor and contributor for several newsletters and legal publications over the years. He loves and enjoys his family, as well as working with young men through the scouting program.
Carolene Cook | Board Member

Carolene CookCarolene Cook has a Bachelor of Science degree from Brigham Young University in Home Economics Education. She has substituted at various schools in Utah and California. She pursued post-graduate work at the University of California, Hayward. She has been a stay at home mother for 29 years, raising seven children with her husband Paul. She has served prominently in many leadership positions in her church and community.

Carolene has been instrumental in the creation of A Child's Hope Foundation and has traveled to Haiti many times during the foundation's formative years, as well China. Having an adopted daughter from China, and a recently adopted niece from Haiti, Carolene remains an passionate advocate of adoption for parentless children in developing countries.

Mark Kendell | Board Member
Mark Kendell

Mark is considered one of Utah's top "serial entrepreneurs" and a most unorthodox private investor. In 1978, he founded Kendell & Associates, LLC a merchant banking firm, specializing in the creation, financing, and operation of a broad spectrum of companies and investment opportunities. Since that time he has provided leadership as an entrepreneur and investor in building new innovative companies and technologies.

His ventures have a very wide range, from one of the original national chains of quick lubrication stores, SuperLube (a predecessor to Jiffy Lube); one of Utah's first research based pharmaceutical companies, Royal Pharmaceutical Company; Intelisys, an innovative research engine; to Great Western Aviation, one of the inter-mountain area's leading general aviation FBO / charter companies.

Currently he is Co-Chairman and CEO of WhiteLight Media Group, Inc. one of the great content developers of motion pictures and video games; and EcoNova, Inc. which has several exciting patented innovations for cleaning contaminated polluted water and the recovery of valuable products within pollution. As a result of his entrepreneurial ventures, he was awarded number 15 in the ACE (Venture Magazine) annual "Top 100 Young Entrepreneurs in the USA" at age 30. In 2006 he was honored with the State of Utah's "Days of 47 Pioneer of Progress Award" for science and technology.

He and his wife live in Huntsville Utah with their five children. They enjoy skiing, hiking, water skiing and ranching. When he is not "playing" at building companies, he "works" at "pulling G's" in his aerobatic airplane, studying ecclesiastical history and works with youth groups, especially the Boy Scouts.

Gerald van Bruggen | Board Member
Gerald van BruggenThe owner of several small businesses, Gerald is involved in contracting, farming, running a nursery, land development, and the entertainment industry. Receiving his Landscape Gardener Certification in 1985, he has been operating Heritage Nurseries Ltd., a commercial Landscape Contracting Company and Tree Nursery for the last 26 years in St. Albert, Alberta, Canada.

Gerald and his wife Jo-anne have been married for 26 years and have four children and four grandchildren. The van Bruggens have been to Haiti four times and three of their children have also worked as volunteers in the construction of the adoption orphanage there. Gerald enjoys downhill skiing, climates warmer than a Canadian winter, and spending time with his family.
H. Carl Mackay | Vice President, General Manager
Carl MackayFor more than 30 years, Carl has held various management and consultant positions in both the public and private sectors. His expertise lies in project management/coordination, fact finding, problem solving, budget administration, and tracking and analysis, as well as short- and long-range planning. In as many as six different locations, Carl supervised work groups of 15 to 25 direct reports, and has managed an entire organization of more than 70 people. He was responsible for managing his annual departmental budget of up to $20.8 million and has assisted in the planning and administration of annual public budgets of $459 million.

In addition to a B.A. in Mass Communications and an M.A. in Organizational Communications from Brigham Young University, Carl earned Certificates of Graduation in Personal Development/Leadership, Process Management, Economic Analysis, Budgeting, Engineering, Planning, Project Management, and Operations Analysis and Productivity Improvement Techniques. He served for 15 years on the Utah County Emergency Preparedness Committee, interacting with the County Sheriff and Emergency Management Center. He and his wife Carolyn have five children and three grandchildren.
Paul H. Cook | Founder
Paul CookWith more than 22 years of management experience in seven different industries, Paul has worked at all levels of management, including nine years at a senior executive level. He is the founder of A Child's Hope Foundation, and though no longer actively involved at present, he has served in the past as a Board Member.

Paul served as vice president of Human Resources for Novell, Inc. and held positions with three Fortune 500 companies based in California. Paul has also owned and operated four companies, which focused on investment, land development, excavation, and equipment leasing. With a total net value of approximately $20 million, he sold three of the four companies in 1998. He also developed several consulting tools with Mackinsie, Alexander Group, and Radford & Associates, and has provided senior level consulting for Novell, AMI, and SonicWALL.

Paul received a B.A. in Communications and Public Relations from Brigham Young University and an M.S. in Industrial Psychology—Management Development from California State, where he also served as an adjunct professor. He has traveled extensively, visiting more than 40 of the United States and more than 50 countries, including living in South America and Europe. Paul enjoys riding his bicycle in the mountains to ponder and meditate amidst the beauty of nature. He and his wife, Carolene, are the parents of seven children.
