  TWO TRIPS TO MEXICO
Jill and Baby
Jill spent a lot of time with the babies

Spring break is always a very busy time for A Child's Hope Foundation, but this year was exceptional. This April there was such a large demand we decided to do two trips back to back. As a result, we got a lot done and made lots of new friends. Canadians made up almost all of the first group, several of whom have been to Haiti with us. The second group was the largest we have ever taken with us at 63 volunteers!

You may remember that during the month of March we had a campaign to raise funds to feed an orphanage for a month. WE MET OUR GOAL - THANK YOU FOR YOUR GENEROSITY! As a result of lots of small donations and a few large ones we were able to provide enough food and cash to feed one orphange for well over a month, as well as giving lots of food and other supplies to several others.

These last work projects we laid hundreds of cinder blocks and plastered stucco on the new infant orphan building at Door of Faith Orphanage. We also painted several buildings, plastered the new girl's dorm at Buena Vida Orphanage, planted fruit trees, and did lots of other smaller projects.

Besides working, we always do a lot of other fun things. We took the girls at Buena Vida Orphanage swimming at a naturally heated pool in the community. Volunteers played in the sand, rode horses on the beach, swam and surfed in the ocean, and enjoyed the sun. Some went to Ensenada and went shopping. We ALL ate at some great restaurants. Most volunteers played lots of soccer with the orphans. Some hiked all over the hills surrounding us. We had a GREAT time!

To you volunteers who worked so hard, and to you donors who provide needed cash and supplies, THANK YOU! We certainly hope to see you on a future trip with us!

  SO FULL OF LIFE

Brittany Wangemann went as a volunteer on our first Mexico work project in April. Here, she shares her feelings about the trip.

While in Mexico, I got the opportunity to visit three orphanages. At Buena Vida, we assisted in the construction of additional rooms for the children. It was a lot of hard work, but it was so worth it at the end of the day to see and know what you accomplished.

At the Door of Faith Orphanage I was able to play with the toddlers/babies. They were the cutest kids and had the sweetest smiles. They were so full of life! At Casa de Paz, we played on the playground with some of the kids. They had so much energy and personality. You could literally see the potential in all of them. They are quite happy children despite the situation they are in.

The saddest part of my trip to Mexico was knowing that I had to return home. Visiting the orphanages was a very humbling experience for me. It really made me realize how fortunate I am and the ability I have to help those less fortunate. I absolutely cannot wait to do it again!

Upcoming Mexico Projects

August 11 - 15

August is a great time to go to Baja, since the temperatures are usually in the upper 70's. Escape the heat, come volunteer with us!

Passports only required for adults, not for minors

On these volunteer projects to Mexico, we meet up in San Diego, California and drive into Baja California, Mexico. You don't need any documents to get into Mexico, but you do need documents to get back into the U.S.

The laws have recently changed in the U.S. If you are a U.S. citizen and an adult, you will need a passport to get back into the U.S. Fortunately, children still only need a birth certificate to cross the border. Full details on the new rules can be found at the U.S. Customs and Border Protection site.
