AUGUST MEXICO REPORT |
Volunteers make great new friends at the Girls' Orphanage |

During the last week of August, volunteers took a trip to down to Baja California, Mexico to spend time working at a couple of orphanages. Usually volunteer groups have around 40 people, but on this trip we had 19. Despite being a smaller group, they sure accomplished a lot!
On this project we were able to lay cinder block, paint several buildings at two orphanages, and dig a septic tank. Additionally we were able to donate food, cash, and other needed supplies to several orphanages in Baja California. |

The walls go up as volunteers gain new skills |

On every trip, volunteers spend lots of time playing with the children at the orphanages, and this trip was no exception. Volunteers took the initiative to bring the kids bubbles, sidewalk chalk, candy, bouncey balls, puzzles, dolls, and much more! One afternoon, volunteers were able to take all 15 girls from Buena Vida Orphanage swimming at a local warm springs swimming pool. Interacting with the children is always one of the great joys of volunteering at these orphanages.
Every trip we make more and more progress and it is great to see volunteers putting so much effort into getting the job done. To you volunteers who worked so hard, and to you donors who provide needed cash and supplies, THANK YOU! We certainly hope to see you on a future trip to an orphanage just south of the border! |

HAITI DAYS CELEBRATION |
Old friends enjoying the reunion |

Last month, A Child's Hope Foundation held our 3rd annual "Haiti Days" Celebration. It was an opportunity for families who adopted from Haiti, along with volunteers who worked as caregivers in Haiti, to share a barbeque lunch together. Games and other activities kept the children busy while their parents visited and discussed the challenges and blessings of adopting and being a parent. It was wonderful to see children who were adopted several years ago playing alongside children who were just adopted a few months ago.
One adoptive mother who attended the event shared these words:
"I love being able to see the families who have adopted, along with their kids, and see how they are progressing. I also think that Haiti Days is important because it gives us (parents who have adopted several years ago) the opportunity to offer support and become friends with those parents who have recently adopted.
"My children remember the kids that they lived with and they love seeing their friends again. The only thing that would have made this event better would be if more families could have come!"
Caregiver volunteers, who spent months of their lives in Haiti caring for the children, were especially given lots of hugs and kisses. We really look forward to seeing more of you adoptive families next year! |
