We occassionally receive responses from volunteers who worked with us during a work project. Rachel went with us to Mexico in March and she shares her feelings about the experience with us here.

Hi, my name is Rachel Romrell, I am 16 years old. During spring break of my junior year in high school, I traveled to Mexico with A Child's Hope Foundation for a week long service project. I am not sure that I can adequately explain the difference this small duration of service has made in my life, or how it has changed my perspective.

Our group stayed in buildings painted in happy bold colors at the Door of Faith Orphanage. I loved the new experiences and enjoyed my stay at the "cow" house. This trip gave me an opportunity to view a lifestyle completely different than my own. Before I took the trip, I don't think I was completely aware of how blessed I truly am. In a way, I took many of my blessings for granted.

I was so grateful to be able to help these beautiful children. I wanted to take them all home with me, but that not being an option, I was far more than happy to help with what I could. I tried to work hard each day, building walls, stuccoing existing walls and painting. My body was tired by the end of each day, but my spirit was flying. I not only got to meet some of the children at the orphanages, but I also made many new friends among the others who made this trip with us.

This experience has been for me, life changing. I am now more aware of what I have and I feel a responsibility to give and serve others who are not as fortunate. Thank you so much for the opportunity! I look forward to another trip whenever you need me!
